Samurai Wolf (1966)
Natsuyagi is the samurai wolf, otherwise known as Kiba Okaminosuke, a broke, dirty ronin. Unlike many of Gosha’s other protagonists, Okaminosuke isn’t particularly disenchanted with samurai culture. He’s quite a jolly fellow, happily announcing that he is unable to pay even a single mon for his meal and offers to chop wood and fix the roof as compensation. The town that he happens to be staying at is very much like the frontier town from a western, complete with a brothel and gallons of dust. Due to the rugged wasteland, the town’s economy is driven by a relay post, run by Ochise, a single blind woman. Unfortunately for Ochise, rival merchant Nizaemon, (played by villain specialist Tatsuo Endo) has been disrupting business by knocking off Ochise’s employees. Ochise is tasked with transporting 30,000 ryo and desperate for a strong ally, hires the good-natured Okaminosuke to help out.
